Student Convention is a great way to meet other families using ACE. Many life-long friendships are formed here, in an atmosphere of competition, Christian fellowship and spiritual challenge over five action-packed days.
At only around $300 per student or adult for Regional Conventions and $500 pp for South Pacifica Convention, including all meals and accommodation, this is the ACE highlight of any year. Non-competing children under 11 y.o. can attend at a reduced cost. 0-2 free.
Note: Although the whole family is welcome to attend, competition is only for students aged from11 and 19. At least one parent or 'sponsor' is to accompany children.
Students compete in a number of areas, from platform to athletics to art/craft to music.
Events can be individual or in teams from the same school or homeschool group. Students with SouthEast Home Education can compete with any other students with SouthEast Home Education.
Regional Convention is held every year around September/October, and South Pacific Convention is every second year around December.
Conventions are run by Southern Cross Educational Enterprises. Dates for future Conventions can be found at their Student Conventions page.
There is one Australian Regional Convention this year:
Tasmania Convention is in Ulverstone.
There are other conventions held throughout the South Pacific.
In 2017, the Australian Student Convention will be held in Rawson, Victoria, from 16th to 20th October.
Convention as part of your homeschooling programme
Serious Conventioneers use Convention as a goal for many of their schooling activities. Art, craft, music, drama, athletics, chess and even Scripture memorization are scheduled into their work loads, preparing students for healthy competition and showcasing of their efforts.
Guidelines for the events can be found at this link.
Regional students can still be part of a team
Even if you live too far away to practise regularly with others, teams can be organised centrally. Even choirs and music ensembles can be organised without having to meet often with each other before the event.
